In case you were cheering on your favorite team and didn’t watch, the 65th annual Primetime Emmy Awards aired Sunday, Sept. 22 in Los Angeles and was a great follow-up from the Tony Awards . Hosted by Neil Patrick Harris, the show included plenty of laughs, a few falls and a few tears. Take a look.

2013 Emmy Highlights

Will Ferrell presented the night’s big awards along with some children, joking that he just got the call to come to the Emmys and had a soccer game, kids’ birthday party, and a nut allergy to deal with.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus accepted the award for outstanding lead actress in a comedy series for her role in HBO’s “Veep” and co-star Tony Hale, who plays her faithful assistant on the show, remained in character by whispering her lines for the speech.

Outstanding Comedy Series
“Modern Family”

Jim Parsons won his third Emmy for the “Big Bang Theory,” taking home the Lead Actor in a Comedy Series award.

During another tribute, Jane Lynch spoke about “Glee” star Cory Monteith, who died this year of a drug overdose. Edie Falco also chimed in with a teary-eyed tribute to “Sopranos” star James Gandolfini.

In another unexpected moment, “Veep’s” Tony Hale beat out three “Modern Family” stars to take home the award for Best Supporting Actor. “Nurse Jackie’s” Merritt Wever managed to beat two “Modern Family” actresses to win the award for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.
